Why Columbine?


We Are a school with a caring, committed and highly-qualified faculty (student to licensed staff ratio of 17:1), that fosters a culture of high standards of learning for all students, valuing each and every member of the school community.   As a community we work hard and value our successes.  

We Are . . . 

  • an AP Capstone Diploma School in Jefferson County, developing students’ skills in research, analysis, evidence-based arguments, collaboration, writing, and presenting
  • a school with successful AP students. Of the 730 total AP Exams taken in 2022, 72% of our test takers received a 3 or higher.  This percentage exceeds the state and global percentage of AP test results.  These high scores have resulted in 57 AP Scholars, 46 with Distinction, and20 students who earned the AP Capstone Diploma.
  • a school with a 15-million dollar facility update including a new auxiliary gym
  • a 1:1 Chromebook school
  • a 2022 Boettcher Scholarship recipient
  • a 2022 Daniels Fund recipient
  • a 2014 Gates Millennium Scholarship winner
  • 2022 National Merit Scholarship recipient
  • a school with 22 students that scored 1400 or better on 2020 Colorado SAT
  • the Birthplace of Big Idea Project, through which students identify a need in society they would like to affect, work together with a business mentor to design their action plan, and then make their Big Idea come to life (www.bigideaproject.org)
  • a DECA state qualifier, with 97 qualifiers in the past five years
  • a school with over 25 Career and Technical education courses offered, including GIC (Geometry in Construction) and AMPED (Algebra Manufacturing Processes, Entrepreneurship, and Design)
  • an Award-winning drama program, including this year's fall play Badger and the upcoming musical Freaky Friday
  • a Speech/Debate state qualifier, numerous times.  CHS Speech and Debate team is named in top 25% of speech and debate clubs in the country (National Speech and Debate Association).
  • winner of the Eliza Pickrell Routt Award for registering the most teen voters in Colorado
  • a school that sends the most students to the Cherry Creek Diversity Conference each year
  • the first high school to host a yearly Blind Café event 
  • a school with 23 CHSAA sanctioned 5A sports and 18 state championships
  • the winner of Jefferson County Paul Davis Sportsmanship Award 7 of the last 8 years
  • home to students from 19 different language backgrounds other than English, with Spanish and Vietnamese being the two most spoken and/or understood languages
  • an athletic program with several Coaches of the Year in 2017, 2018 and 2022
  • a spirit squad of Varsity and JV Cheers winning League Champions in 2017
  • a school staff that has several faculty members recipients of Jeffco’s Talented Teachers Awards
  • a community that holds an annual Trick-or-Treat Street event that provides a safe and fun Halloween for over 1,000 kids
  • a community that hosts an annual Coffee Jam.  Held twice a year, this fundraiser has raised over $50,000 to support earthquake rebuilding efforts in Haiti, to  sponsor high school students in Kenya, to provide funds to purchase furniture at an orphanage in Zimbabwe, to partner with the African Community Center in Denver, to sponsor a sister school and community in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria, and to support a children’s home in Tanzania that meets the educational needs of over 40 children
  • the home of the state's only tri-school dance, Chakotabine, which has raised over $80,000 for the American Cancer Society, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Columbine Memorial, American Red Cross, and Dysautonomia International
  • a school with top-rated high school partnership with Vitalant (formerly Bonfils) Blood Drive; top donor in the state 
  • a community that hosts the annual Run for Remembrance 5K 
  • home of the 2019 My Student My Hero Award recipient (Ms. Aracely Garcia, Class of 2020)
